OSPREY AND THE FISH.
Kuldeepak Banda/ Apr15,2021

It had been a long day. We had started from Bangalore earlier in the morning around 6 AM. As we were checking into our rooms at the Kabini river lodge, tbe excitement of exploring the forest was palpable. Just as we were having lunch, we were informed of a forest fire the previous day and that there were no safaris planned for the afternoon. As a deluge of sheer disappointment hit us, to our relief; we were told that the river safari was possible and was being pushed ahead in the 4 day program. Looking up at the bright sun, I was wondering how such a harsh light would impact the pictures we would be taking! But then, we are always ready to make the most out of any situation; for we shoot in uncontrolled environment and not in a studio. As we set out in a boat, we saw Indian pond Herons, Eastern great Egrets, Great Cormorants, Mongoose, Spotted Deers and Elephants, a preview for the days we were to spend in the forest. Just then out boatsman hushed us up and we saw in a distance a tiger crossing the river, something I had witnessed for the first time. (Though I have had wonderful sightings many a times before in the forests) Much as I wanted, the tiger walked straight and did not look my way, not in a mood to pose for my camera. Documented as he crossed, alas; I did not get a picture I would have wanted. Now this is the real dichotomy between desire and delivery! Not much we could do about it, but let me tell you, seeing a tiger cross a river was a big moment after all. Time moves fast in a forest and it was time for us to return. As we turned around, we saw an Osprey perched high on a tree, holding on to her meal half done and ready for the camera. Many shots later, as we headed back; I knew our day one concluded well, the finale came with an Osprey and her prey. Kabini promised to unravel many jungle secrets, to bare her soul to us; her lovers who keep her company.         Watch this space for more, for there are a million stories untold but lived each day in a forest. And here I am, living some moments with you, which are just the telltale signs of the beauty the nature beholds.

Do not forget to give your valuable critique on the pictures and the story,
